Community Event and Fun Run Sunday, August 13
Two popular events, "Backpacks, Blessings and Barbecue at the Bandshell" and the Bobcat Blitz will be held on Sunday, August 13!
Immanuel Lutheran Church will be hosting “Backpacks, Blessings and Barbecue at the Bandshell” on Sunday, August 13. The day will include community worship with Immanuel’s Praise band, a “special backpack blessing,” and a barbecue for all. Students and educators are encouraged to bring along their backpacks, totes, or briefcases to be blessed. K-9 Comfort Dogs from Lutheran Church Charities will be available for petting and hugs! Christie’s Dairy delights will be there serving complimentary ice cream.
Outdoor, casual, worship featuring Immanuel’s praise band and the blessing of the backpacks begins at 10:45 a.m., while the barbeque and summer fun will run until 2:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the entire community and all ages!
The worship and fun will take place at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. In the event of inclement weather, the activities will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, 200 North Plum Grove Road, Palatine. New this year – the Bobcat Blitz 1.4 Mile Fun Run will conclude at this event. The Bobcat Blitz will start at Immanuel Lutheran (200 North Plum Grove Road) at 10:15 a.m. The Bobcat Blitz is an annual event organized by Immanuel Lutheran Church and School supports community-wide efforts. Proceeds from the 2017 race will be used to provide backpacks and school supplies for local children in need. The 2017 Bobcat Blitz is a 1.4 mile point-to-point fun run and will conclude at the Backpacks, Barbecue, and Blessings at the Bandshell Event held at Community Park.

9:45 a.m. - Race day registration/Bib pick up for pre-registered racers
10:15 a.m. - Race begins
10:45 a.m. - Awards & Backpacks, Blessings and Barbecue at the Bandshell begins
The cost of the race is $10 for 13 and under and $20 for adults
Race participants will receive a drawstring backpack (while supplies last). There is no charge for the Backpack Event.
