Cummings, Markelonis Selected to Region IV All-Tournament Team

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – The Harper College softball team finished as the runner-up in the Region IV Tournament after losing to eventual national champion Rock Valley College in the Region IV Championship. Hawks softball players Sam Cummings (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and Sara Markelonis (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) were both named to the Region IV All-Tournament Team for their excellence in postseason play.

Cummings, who was also named to the Region IV All-Tournament Team in 2014, was 5-for-12 with three doubles and four RBIs in four postseason games. She went 2-for-4 in the tournament opener again College of DuPage and went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks in an elimination game against DuPage the next day.

Markelonis was 6-for-13 with two doubles, a triple, and an RBI in four postseason games. Against Joliet Junior College, she went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three runs scored. In the next game against DuPage, the freshman went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Defensively, Markelonis recorded six putouts and seven assists.
