Deadline for Palatine Township 'Adopt-A-Family' Nominations Friday, Oct. 16

The holidays are normally a time when joy is in the air and gifts are exchanged in celebration. But, there are individuals throughout Palatine Township who are experiencing catastrophic life events – such as the loss of a job, serious health issues and other circumstances that prevent them from fully enjoying the holiday season. Families with low incomes also are challenged to provide all the extras that many of us take for granted.

Palatine Township’s Adopt-A-Family program provides an opportunity to connect these different groups in an effort to create a joy-filled holiday season, for all.

Individuals and families who can be ‘adopted’ are referred by school social workers, and also by Township residents who know of those in-need. The deadline for nominations is coming up quickly on Friday, October 16.

Township residents and families, businesses, clubs, churches and organizations are invited to get involved by choosing to adopt a family. Those interested have until November 2 to sign up through the Palatine Township website at http://www.palatinetownship.com/2015adoptafamilyform/.

“We can all play a small part in making a difference in the lives of those in need of some support this holiday season,” said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson, Palatine Township Supervisor. “We can help to make this time just a bit brighter.”

Those who qualify for the Adopt-A-Family program must be qualified through the Township, and are limited to receiving the assistance two times during their lifetime. All nominations and donations are made anonymously.

In 2014, 204 families from Palatine Township were accepted into the Adopt-A-Family program, and the Township is preparing to serve approximately 250 this year.

The program culminates with a visit from Santa Claus on Saturday, December 12 where children will have a number of activities to keep them busy as parents collect gifts concealed in large bags to encourage the magic of giving through the holiday season.
