PALATINE, IL — Community members shared their thoughts on District 211's proposed policy to allow transgender unrestricted access to locker rooms at a school board meeting last week, the Daily Herald reports. Around 100 people were in attendance at the meeting Thursday but only 10 were allowed to speak.

Those who spoke shared differing opinions on the policy, some asking the school board to vote it down and others praising officials for being open to the rights of the district's transgender population.

The earliest the school board could vote on the policy, which would allow transgender students to change in locker rooms and use bathrooms that are meant for the gender they align with, would be Nov. 14, according to the Daily Herald.
