The District 15 $130 Million Referendum: Why No is the Only Choice

On August 17, 2016, the CCSD 15 School Board unanimously approved a $130 million Building Bond Referendum that would have a massive impact on not only the Palatine community in relation to our neighborhoods, a school closing, the building of two new schools, transportation, and demographics in our schools - but also and equally important - a substantial increase in our taxes. To be clear, there is not even a precise plan relating to financials and necessary studies to back up $130 million dollars...that's no small chunk of change!

Please follow us in the days and weeks to come, as we methodically and thoughtfully show our stakeholders how we must vote NO as a community, and stand united in sending a message to the school district that enough is enough. Our stakeholders include:

• Those who have children who attend District 15 schools.
• Those who live in Palatine and other communities that are taxed by CCSD 15.
• Those who own businesses in Palatine and other communities that are taxed by CCSD 15.
• Those who have a vested interest in the health and vibrancy of our District 15 community.

We all would be affected by this referendum in a profound, and serious way. We have had enough when it comes to not being included in the conversations that affect our children, and our community at-large.....not to mention the tax bills of those who don't have children and are completely factored out of the flow of information from the school district. So many people are just learning about this outrageous proposition they will see on the ballot on November 8, 2016....here is our message:

• We do not agree with a referendum and accompanying plan that had no engagement from the community at-large, prior to its unanimous approval by the school board - during a meeting on the night of the first day of school in 2016.

• We do not agree with a plan that has no real structure, or studies to back it up - this is $130 million in bonds we are talking about!
• We do not agree with the complete and utter lack of transparency that runs rampant with District 15 leadership-both now and over the last several years.

Stay with us and we will help you, the stakeholders of District 15, see how this plan is irresponsible - and that we cannot as responsible citizens, sit back and allow the supporters of this 'moving target' referendum convey their 'fact shaky' argument, without meeting it head on.
