Donor Sign Up Begins for Palatine Township Thanksgiving Basket Program

Under-resourced Township families receive a basket filled with non-perishable, Thanksgiving dinner fixings.

Palatine Township is now seeking donors for their annual Thanksgiving Basket program. In 2015, nearly 800 under-resourced Township families received baskets full of all the traditional Thanksgiving dinner fixings (non-perishable items only) so that they were able to enjoy a meal for the holiday.

Now through October 28, those interested in supporting this program either through a donated basket and suggested contents, or through monetary donations. are being accepted by the Township.

“Each year, we see the true generosity of our Township residents through the Thanksgiving Basket program,” said Palatine Township Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson. “This, and our other giving programs help to take some of the stress off of families who simply cannot afford all the extras.”

The Township has a goal to increase distribution of the Thanksgiving Baskets by 10-percent compared to the number of families that were helped in 2015, which was 791. The list of suggested basket contents can be found on the Palatine Township website at http://palatinetownship.squarespace.com/thanksgiving-2016.

Information is also available on the website for individuals who would like to give, but don’t have time to shop. Monetary donations will enable the Township to purchase items to include in the baskets.

The Thanksgiving Basket program is anonymous; Palatine Township pairs up families with donors and all that is known is that the recipients are in-need and those who donate helped to lessen the financial burden to help these individuals and families celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
