Former AT&T Campus Could Become 'Metroburb'
A developer has closed on the Hoffman Estates property and plans to add entertainment venues, housing and more.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL -- A New Jersey-based development company is moving forward with the transformation of the former AT&T campus in Hoffman Estates into a "metroburb." Somerset Development closed on its purchase of the 150-acre site Tuesday afternoon and now has plans to redevelop the property with the addition of multi-family housing, entertainment venues and businesses, according to the Daily Herald. Somerset, which spearhead the redevelopment of the Bell Works "metroburb" in New Jersey, plans to focus its redevelopment efforts on the 1.6 million square feet of office space already available at the Hoffman Estates campus.
The housing additions and a possible hotel will require new buildings, according to the article. The hope is to sell land adjacent to the campus in Hoffman Estates to a developer that would build 380 multi-family residential units and 170 townhouses.
Somerset is next expected to submit an application for interior demolition of the office buildings, according to the Daily Herald. The developer would then likely return to the village with more details on the interior design.
