Gertrude "Gert" Fallon O'Brien, 90

Visitation for Gertrude "Gert" Fallon O'Brien, 90, of Hinsdale, will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home located at 185 East Northwest Highway in Palatine. Services will resume Monday, Oct. 1 at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly, 80 West Northwest Highway, Palatine from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. with her Celebration of Life Mass at 10 a.m. Interment private.

Gertrude "Gert" Fallon O'Brien, born April 14, 1922 in Chicago, she passed away peacefully in her dearly cherished home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Gertrude was a graduate of Loretta Academy and a member of the Gray Lady of the American Red Cross during WWII and a member of the Third Order, Secular Franciscan Order. Gertrude and her late husband, John C. O’Brien II, raised their six children in Hinsdale, IL and were active members of St. Isaac Jogues Parish as well as a former resident of Mayslake Village. They enjoyed many summers and family holidays at their vacation home on Eagle Lake in Wisconsin.

Gertrude was the loving mother of John C. III (Susan), Maureen (Gregory) Lawton, Kevin (Cyndi), Terrence and Brian (Michelle); cherished grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 9. She was preceded in death by her son Daniel O’Brien and grandson Joseph O’Brien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gertrude O'Brien's name to St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly would be appreciated.
