Grammy D's Family Restaurant to Close This Week

Grammy D's will be closing after 16 years in Palatine.

A popular Palatine diner will close its doors this weekend.

Grammy D’s Family Restaurant at 147 N. Northwest Highway, has earned a loyal following of customers since it started serving up breakfast and lunch in Palatine in 1999, the Daily Herald reports. The small diner has been owned by Dorothy Hechler, the ’D’ in Grammy D’s, for the past 16 years but will close on Sunday as Hechler is set to retire.

“The restaurant is me,” Hechler told the Daily Herald. ”It doesn’t have anything to do with our great food and quality and quantity, the restaurant is me.”

Customers would agree and keep coming back to see Hechler.

“She always makes you feel like she has invited you to her house for a nice meal,” Carol Martin, a loyal Grammy D’s customer, told the Daily Herald.
