Harper Drops Opener to DuPage

The Harper College men’s soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback in its 2015 season opener at College of DuPage.

The Chapparals (1-0) struck first in the 14th minute as Daniel Poole beat Hawks (0-1) goalkeeper Jacob Goldstein (Buffalo Grove, Ill. /Stevenson ). Jordi McCormack and Hajhar Aghs assisted on the goal. Poole assisted on DuPage’s second goal of the half as he found Cody Dilworth, who found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Harper outshot DuPage 7-6 in the first half but trailed 2-0 at halftime.

College of DuPage extended the lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute as Javier Moyotl scored his goal of the season. Poole and Antonio Velazquez assisted on the goal. Five minutes later, the Chapparals struck again as McCormack made it 4-0 with a goal on an assist from Aghs and Juan Alcantra.

Harper had its chances with eight shots on goal and 10 shots overall in the game. Angel Sarti (/Hoffman Estates) led the Hawks with three shots, and eight different players recorded shots on goal. College of DuPage goalkeeper earned the win with a shutout. Goldstein made four save in net for the Hawks.

Harper opens its home schedule at 4:30 PM Thursday afternoon against College of Lake County.
