WARRENVILLE, Ill. – The Harper College men’s cross country team took top team honors at the Region IV Championship on Saturday at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve. The men scored 18 points to top Joliet Junior College (55 points) for the Region IV crown at the NJCAA Div. III level. While the meet was not scored to include all teams regardless of division, the Hawks placed first among all NJCAA schools at the meet with 47 points, ahead of College of Lake County (76 points) and Waubonsee Community College (92 points).
Harper’s Juan Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) cruised to a first place finish in the 90-man field with a time of 26:18.5 on the 8K course. Fellow sophomore Brennan Albuck (/Hoffman Estates) placed third overall with a time of 27:09.4, and Adam Brauer (Palatine, lll./Palatine)‘s time of 27:32.5 was good for seventh place.

Emil Kozakiewicz (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) took 11th place in the meet with a time of 27:45.1, and John Majerus (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) rounded out the scoring with a 15th place finish in 28:08. Will Troman (/Streamwood) crossed the finish line in 28:36.6 for a 22nd place finish.
The Hawks, who are ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NJCAA poll, will compete at the 2014 NJCAA DIII Men’s Cross Country Championship on Nov. 8 in Canadaigua, N.Y.
