Hawks Excel in Field Events at Chicagoland Indoors

The Harper College men’s track and field team saw its best performances come in the field events at Saturday’s Chicagoland Indoor Championships. Four Hawk athletes qualified for the national meet in their respective events in the meet hosted at North Central College.

Nick Dorsen (/Palatine) qualified for nationals in both the high jump and long jump. He cleared 1.82m in the high jump, and in the long jump he leaped 6.18m and finished 20th of 50 jumpers.

Justin Tolentino (/Dundee-Crown) and Tyler Block (/Conant) performed well in the triple jump. Tolentino jumped 12.57m, and Block jumped 12.01m. Both athletes qualified for the this spring’s NJCAA Division III National Championship in Massachusetts.

Finally, Dwayne Esper (/Illinois School for the Deaf) ran his best time (24.26 seconds) in the 200-meter dash.

The Chicagoland Indoors has primarily four-year schools, including NCAA Div. I, II, and III schools as well as NAIA schools. Host North Central College (117 points) edged Lewis University (113 points) for top team honors. Olivet Nazarene University was a distant third with 82 points.

The Hawks will compete again next weekend at North Central College’s Cardinal Classic Track & Field Meet on Friday, Feb. 19. For more details on the meet, click here.
