PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College athletic teams partnered with Harper’s Human Services Club for this year’s Food Drive. In total, the Harper women’s basketball team, wrestling team and athletic training staff and student workers put together six baskets of food to support families in the Wheeling and Palatine communities for Thanksgiving.
“It’s good to give back to those who are in need,” said Harper freshman women’s basketball player Shannon Koch, who has personally experienced the generosity of other during past holiday seasons. “That has inspired me to give back to others. It brought us closer as a team because we talked about what items to bring, and everyone followed through by bringing the food.”
According to the Human Service Club’s Mission, “Our goal is to enrich the professional and personal lives of all Harper students, through education, service work, and community involvement!”

These baskets will be given directly to families who are served by the Palatine Opportunity Center. Additional food items will be given to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. Student clubs, offices, programs, divisions, and departments were encouraged to ‘Adopt A Basket’ in order to provide a Thanksgiving meal to families in need. The food drive was held from Oct. 13-Nov. 19.
