Illinois State Police Release Results From Seatbelt Patrols

Authorities focuses their patrols on the Tri-State Tollway in Lake and Cook counties.

ISP: Illinois State Police District 15 Commander Dominic Chiappini announced today enforcement figures for Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) conducted during the month of October on the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80) in Cook and Lake counties.

In 2017, nearly one in four of the 1,090 people killed in traffic crashes in Illinois were not wearing seatbelts, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The goal of the OREP program is to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries by strictly enforcing all occupant restraint laws in Illinois. This project is funded through the IDOT Division of Traffic Safety.
