John M. Culbertson, 90
Services have been scheduled for longtime Mt. Prospect resident John M. Culbertson.

Visitation for John M. Culbertson of Mt. Prospect since 1966, will be held Monday, July 16, 2012, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067.
The entombment service will be held at 11 a.m.,Tuesday, July 17 at the chapel in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
John was born February 3, 1922 in Wadesville, IN, the son of Leslie and Sarah (nee Morton) Culbertson. Reared in Evansville, IN, he graduated from Bosse High School in 1940 where he enjoyed participating in band activities. After graduation, he ventured to Chicago where he worked until being called into the armed services during WWII from 1942 until 1946, serving in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. Upon returning home to Evansville, he earned a BS in accounting from the University of Evansville in 1949.

John married Mildred M. Kirchoff on September 27, 1947 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Evansville. In 1963 they moved to the Chicago area.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights. He was an active volunteer at the Arlington Heights Senior Center and the Arlington Heights Library. He also volunteered for the Lutheran Home transportation service and the PADS program at his church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mildred M. Culbertson for almost 65 years; daughter, Janet (Michael) Herron; grandson, Carrick (Elizabeth) Herron; sister, Jeanette (late Robert) Gabbert; son-in-law, Daniel Olson, and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Judy Olson; and sister, Naomi Van Laningham.
