Being afraid and nervous prior to a dental procedure is common for many, but Dr. David Potts, owner of Lake County Dental Care, makes it his mission to calm patients’ nerves with innovative techniques and approaches.

Potts, who opened his Libertyville clinic in 1974, said he has learned that approaching patients in a non-judgmental, respectful way is the most effective.

“I feel and have found that especially with high fear patients they beat themselves up and feel guilty about their fear and nervousness,” said Potts. “The last thing they need from us is anything but understanding and respect.”

It’s not just a compassionate approach, though, that sets Lake County Dental Care apart. The clinic offers what’s called oral conscious sedation in which the patient is put into a sedated state rather than being rendered unconscious for a procedure.

Another way that Lake County Dental is unique is their offering of a wide range of dental services under one roof.

“My team and I have had extensive training and experience in dental implants (both placing and restoring them), cosmetic dental services and major reconstructive services.”

Laser-assisted gum treatments, Invisalign and FastBraces orthodontic services, tooth-colored fillings, endodontic care and treatment of sleep apnea are also offered at Lake County Dental.

“We have also added an additional general dentist, Dr. Lisa Wolff, to allow us to expand the days and hours we are open to service peoples’ needs,” said Potts. “ We are now open 5-6 days per week with hours as early as 6:30 a.m. to as late as 8 p.m.”

Potts said he has always enjoyed working with his hands and dentistry has proven to be a very satisfying career. He said what he enjoys most is helping people.

“Whether it’s keeping their mouths healthy for a life time, improving their smile, straightening or replacing teeth,” he said.

Although technology has brought dramatic changes to dentistry since Lake County Dentistry first opened its doors in 1974, Potts said he is committed to helping people improve their dental health and reach their goals.

“I see us continuing to stay at the forefront of technology in the future just as we always have done historically,” he said. “I feel as long as we continue to treat people as individuals with respect and genuine caring for their wants, needs and desires that our true competition will come from other discretionary purchases, not other dental practices.”
