Little City named finalist for $25,000 State Farm grant
Public voting will determine whether $25,000 goes toward foster families supporting children with disabilities
Little City is a finalist for the 2019 State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant that could award $25,000 in support of its Foster Care & Adoption Program.
Over the past 25 years, Little City’s Foster Care and Adoption Program has helped more than 260 children achieve permanency through adoption, guardianship, or returns to birth families – a remarkable rate given that children with disabilities are overrepresented in the child welfare system and more often mistreated than their typically-abled peers.
In 2012, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) recognized Little City as the first foster care and adoption agency in Illinois to obtain cultural competence in serving the LGBT community.

“We are very excited to be a finalist for the 2019 State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant,” said Shawn Jeffers, Little City Executive Director. “We hope the community will rally around our cause so the families we rely on to provide love and care to children with disabilities will be able to receive the tools and support they deserve.”
Now in its eighth year, the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant awards $25,000 grants to 40 nonprofit organizations to help fund neighborhood education, safety and community development projects. Out of more than 2,000 submissions, Little City was one of only 200 selected for final voting.

In order to give foster families the support they deserve, Little City will need its communities and supporters to vote often. The public will have a chance to vote 10 times a day, every day for 10 days, from Aug. 14-23. Voting will take place at www.neighborhoodassist.com.
