Man Crushed To Death By Garbage Truck In Rosemont

ROSEMONT, IL — A man was fatally crushed inside a garbage truck in Rosemont over the weekend. He jumped into a dumpster after a night of drinking with his brother, Rosemont police said.

The man's brother filed a missing person report with police at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers launched a search and eventually found surveillance cameras that showed Diego Mata, 31, getting into a dumpster at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of Park Place. The footage later showed a Waste Management truck hauling the dumpster away, police said.

Officers then found Mata's body in the site where the garbage was dumped. Police have ruled his death was ruled an accident.
