Man Sentenced For Sex Act On 12-Year Old Girl

PALATINE, IL — A judge sentenced a Palatine man who plead guilty to charges that stemmed from accusations that he performed a sex act on a 12-year-old girl to 27 years in prison this week. According to a report from the Daily Herald, Barnassey Thomas must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. That minimum comes to just less than 23 years.

Thomas indicated earlier in the case that he would represent himself against the charges, which in October 2016 were levied as two counts of felony predatory criminal sexual assault.

When Thomas was then confronted by a relative of the victim at his home, he fled and was found by Palatine police in a public area about two miles later in the area of the 1300 block of North Rand Road Palatine Patch reported in 2016.

Police said at the time Thomas refused to obey the officers and held a pocket knife to his own throat. Officers negotiated with Thomas and convinced him to drop the knife after the threatened to use a Taser.
