Palatine Coronavirus: Church To Hold Food Drive

Harvest Bible Chapel in Cook County will host a food drive-up event this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

PALATINE, IL—As the new coronavirus forces many people out of work, the demand for food donations has gone up substantially for many Cook County residents.

"During this crisis, many of our neighbors have found themselves in a situation they've never experienced before, needing to feed a family on a budget that has been slashed due to layoffs or reduced hours," Northern Illinois Food Bank President & CEO Julie Yurko said.

To help families put food on the table, Palatine officials announced Wednesday that Harvest Bible Chapel in Cook County will host a food drive-up event this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The church is located at 800 Rohlwing Rd. in Rolling Meadows. From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., seniors, expecting mothers and those with disabilities may arrive for food pickup.

According to Palatine officials, when people arrive for the food drive-up event, a personal shopper will take their order and then place the items in the trunk of their car. All CDC regulations will be utilized by the event volunteers, including the use of gloves and masks, and practicing social distancing.

Prior to this weekend's food drive-up event, this Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Harvest Cares will host be collecting food donations by the main doors. People can help by bringing the essential food and non-food items:

Donors are asked to sanitize the donation items and place them in the trunk of their car. Volunteers will be collecting the items from their car.
