Palatine Officials Discuss Pot Sale Restrictions In Town

The Palatine Village Council is expected to vote next month on whether to allow businesses to sell marijuana for recreational purposes.

PALATINE, IL — Palatine's advisory plan commission on Tuesday night discussed how to regulate where marijuana could be sold in town if the village decides to allow businesses to sell pot for recreational purposes once it becomes legal in Illinois in the New Year, the Daily Herald reports. Ultimately, the plan commission agreed that if allowed, only two to four marijuana retailers should be allowed in Palatine.

In addition, the advisory plan commission proposed the retailers be at least 2,500 feet from schools and at least 1,000 feet from Palatine Park District facilities, according to the Daily Herald. The businesses would need to be located in manufacturing areas or highway shopping districts and would need to obtain a special use permit.

The Palatine Village Council will have the final say on whether the sale of pot will be allowed in town and is expected to vote on the matter in December.
