Palatine PD Participating In 2026 Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The nationwide effort, spearheaded by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and local police departments, takes place twice a year.
PALATINE, IL — Twice a year, the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with thousands of law enforcement partners across the United States, holds National Prescription Take Back Day events.
On Saturday, April 25, a number of local police departments will be collecting the unwanted prescription drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., including the Palatine Police Department. The collection will take place at the station, located at 595 N. Hicks Road.
The last event, held in October 2025, resulted in the collection of 571,054 pounds (286 tons) of unneeded medications at 4,317 collection sites nationwide.

The first National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was held on Sept. 25, 2010, and was organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. In the past 16 years, a total of 20,391,815 pounds of prescription drugs have been collected during the event.
