Palatine Police: Home Burglary, DUI, Retail Theft

The Palatine Police Department released its most recent police reports.

PALATINE, IL — The Palatine Police Department responded to the following reports in recent days.

Residential Burglary

The Palatine Police Department was called to the 300 block of West Johnson Street for a report an unknown person or persons forcing their way into a business and taking cash. The residential burglary reportedly happened between 6:30 a.m. on July 26 and 5:55 p.m. on July 27, according to the police report. There were no signs of forced entry to the business. The burglary remains under investigation, police said Tuesday.

Retail Theft

A 44=year-old Palatine woman has been charged with retail theft after trying to steal items from Walmart, authorities said. Kaloom Khan, of th 400 block of East Spruce Drive, allegedly purchased several items while using a self-checkout lane, but did not pay for six items. A loss prevention employee saw Khan walk out of the store, police said. The total value of the items taken was $33.08.

DUI

A 24-year-old Wheeling man is charged with drunken driving, authorities said. Eric Giles, of the 300 block of Virginia Place in Wheeling, was pulled over on eastbound Palatine Road at Rohlwing Road at about 3:32 a.m. on July 28, according to a police report. He's been charged with driving under the influence, blood alcohol content over .08 and leaving the scene of the crash.
