Palatine Township Encourages Participation in the Teal Pumpkin Project

Palatine Township is highlighting the Teal Pumpkin Project, a program that helps children with food allergies enjoy Halloween, too.

The project is meant to create a safer Halloween experience for children who have a variety of food allergies. Those who accept trick-or-treaters are simply asked to provide non-food treats as options when children come to their door, such as glow sticks or small toys, as an alternative to candy.

“All kids should be able to celebrate Halloween. The treats can be small, but they’ll make a big difference to a child with food allergies,” said Palatine Township Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson.

Those who choose to participate are asked to visit the project website at: http://www.palatinetownship.co... to download a flyer. Participating households are asked to display the flyer in their windows on October 31st.

Individuals can also paint a pumpkin teal and display it so that trick-or-treaters with food allergies know that there are non-food options for treats.
