Palatine Township Welcomes New Officials at Swearing In Ceremony

Meet your new Palatine Township Board sworn in Monday, May 19, 2025 for the four year term from 2025-2029.

The newly elected Palatine Township Board was officially sworn into office on Monday, May 19, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Palatine Township Center. Family, friends, and local dignitaries were in attendance to mark the occasion and show their support for the incoming officials.

Returning for a second term, Andy-John G. Kalkounos took the oath of office as Township Supervisor. Former Trustee A. Christine Svenson was sworn in as Township Clerk, beginning her first term in the role. William Pohlman commenced his second term as Assessor, while Aaron B. Del Mar began his third term as Highway Commissioner.

Trustees Michael C. Smolka and John M. Freese, both first elected in 2021, returned for their second terms. Newly elected trustees Natalie Sahinoglu and James Sloan were sworn in to begin their first terms in office.

The ceremony included an invocation by Pastor Luke MacDonald of Good News in the Neighborhood Church, and the presentation of colors by American Legion Post 690 of Palatine. The Honorable Joel L. Greenblatt, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, administered the oaths of office.

Several public officials attended to extend their congratulations, including State Senator Darby Hills, Cook County Commissioners Maggie Trevor and Scott Britton, and Schaumburg Mayor Tom Dailly. The event concluded with a benediction by Father Chris Mihalopoulos, Parish Priest of St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church.

Immediately following the ceremony, the newly seated board held its first official meeting. All elected officials will serve four-year terms ending in 2029. Palatine Township is your primary source of humanitarian aid in our community. The Township provides numerous services and events for its 114,000 residents and supports 30 social service agencies located within its boundaries. The Township is one of the most heavily populated in Illinois, with a goal to enhance and improve the quality of life for all of its residents. The following communities are part of the Township: Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Barrington, South Barrington and Schaumburg.
