Palatine's Pie Five Pizza Among 6 Suburban Locations to Close Abruptly

PALATINE, IL — The Palatine Pie Five Pizza on East Dundee Road is among six suburban locations to close abruptly. The fast casual pizza chain will keep its franchised Schaumburg location open, but it has also shuttered restaurants in Oak Lawn, Naperville, Skokie, Algonquin and Glenview, the Daily Herald reports.

Another franchise location will open in April in Oak Brook at 537 Oak Brook Center, according to the article.
Palatine's Pie Five Pizza, 787 E. Dundee Road, opened in June of 2015. The restaurant concept allowed customers to make their own customized pizzas from a selection of crusts, sauces and toppings. The pizzas were served up in five minutes or less.

The Daily Herald reports Jami Zimmerman, a Pie Five spokeswoman, said in a statement that Pie Five Pizza "made the very difficult but operationally necessary decision to focus development on our growing markets. It was truly in the best interest of the brand, our franchisees, shareholders and other team members."

The first Pie Five Pizza in Rolling Meadows closed in 2015 — just three months after opening. Carl Dissette, franchisee of the restaurant who also still operates the Schaumburg Pie Five, has sued Pie Five Pizza and its parent company, RAVE, stating they "overstated financial figures to make the restaurants appear more attractive," the Daily Herald reported in an earlier article. But in reality, according to the federal lawsuit, the company's stock prices continue to dip and the company continues to lose money.

In the suite, Dissette is seeking return of payments and reimbursement of losses, according to the Daily Herald. He said he lost $500,000 when he closed the Rolling Meadows Pie Five Pizza.
