Three chickens residing as pets at a home on South Williams Avenue will be removed following a village council vote.

Three chickens residing as pets in the backyard of a Palatine home will soon be sent packing.
The Palatine Village Council voted to remove the three chickens from the backyard of Marshall and Doris Chandler who live in the 500 block of South Williams Ave. in Palatine, the Daily Herald reports. Doris said she got the chickens as a present from a friend as a way to cheer her up after she started to experience health issues.
Neighbors Carl and SueAllyn Kiewert sent a letter to the village, complaining about the chickens, which are kept about six feet from their bedroom window, according to the newspaper. The sound of the chickens’ cackling is a problem, the couple said.

One councilmen asked the village to make sure the chickens are removed from the Chandlers’ yard in a safe and humane way, the Daily Herald reports.
