POC Celebrates cultural diversity with the Sikh Community

At POC, we love the fact that we are a culturally rich community center!

At POC (Partners for Our Communities, formerly Palatine Opportunity Center), we love the fact that we are a culturally rich community center. This past week, we were able to celebrate the Sikh community with a special visit from our Board Member, Mr. Basati and his friends. Clients and students of the center enjoyed a celebration of music, dance, amazing food and learned about the Sikh traditions. Our community director summed it best by stating:

Seeing people from Turkey, Latin America, Poland, Russia and and other parts of the world laughing, dancing, trying on the turbans and eating new food reminded me of why I love this job! I believe that everyday we can change lives and build community by coming together like this.

POC is a non-for profit, community agency who seeks to "empower ALL people". With campuses in Hoffman Estates at the Higgens Education Center, in Palatine at the NCH Community Resource Center, at Baldwin Apartments in Palatine knowns as Edgebrook Center and at Winston Campus Junior High at our POC Community School, POC delivers evidence based programs in an effort "to have a community of strong citizens, healthy families, and vibrant neighborhoods". With a large variety of programs, POC easily has over 230,000 client contacts a year at the CRC location alone. To find out more, find us on social media or visit us online at poc.news.
