Palatine Police Shoot, Wound Man in Leg During Drug Investigation (UPDATED)

The officer opened fire on the man, who is accused of driving toward police as he tried to flee, officials say.

Palatine, IL—Fearing for his life, a Palatine police officer shot and wounded a 26-year-old man trying to flee police during a drug investigation Thursday night at an apartment complex, according to a village press release.

The man was accused of driving toward the officer and his partner when he was shot in the leg, the report stated. Police apprehended the man later after he had driven away, and he was treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, the report added.

The man is currently in police custody, and the report did not indicate if charges had been filed.

The shooting occurred during a drug investigation at around 7:40 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Quentin Road. Police say the officer who shot the man is a 10-year veteran of the department and opened fired because he feared for his safety and was trying to protect himself and his partner, according to the report.

Palatine, IL—Police are investigating a shooting at a Palatine apartment complex, according to media reports.

According to ABC 7, the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. at Inverleith Apartments in the 500 block of North Quentin Road. Police also were seen at a condo complex in the 1400 block of East Winslowe Drive, the Daily Herald reports.

ABC 7 also reports that witnesses say at least one man was shot and wounded during an undercover police operation.

Palatine police have not released details about the shooting but have confirmed they are investigating.
