Serving the Community
Membership year 2018-19 begins with community service and November 16, 2018 fundraiser event.

Women’s Club of Inverness (WCI) begins a new membership year at its September 13 meeting when the new Board showcases plans to fulfill the WCI mission. Now in its 53rd year, WCI serves the needs of women, children, families, and seniors in Inverness and its surrounding communities in Illinois.
Supporting this mission in early August, WCI members volunteered in a community-wide program organized by Sue Sadowski, WCI Community Improvement Project (CIP) Chair. Sadowski commented, "Several WCI members were able to serve the community through Palatine Township’s Apple Tree Campaign. Our volunteers helped local children fill a new backpack with needed school supplies, assuring their preparedness for the start of the school year. What a joy to see so many happy faces eager to learn!"
Further inspiration will be provided to September meeting attendees from two speakers. Rachel Lara of I-Compete will explain how the 2017-18 WCI grant afforded low income students an opportunity to continue learning through summer experiences. Two-time WCI scholarship recipient, Dr. Heather Loska Mendez, will tell her story of fulfilling aspirations to become a chiropractor.

Invitations to Memories of Christmas Past, WCI’s first fundraiser, will be mailed this month. Karen Spering, WCI President and Fall Event Chair, outlined fundraising components, including a cash raffle, raffle baskets, and an auction to directly benefit the WCI philanthropy fund. Known for its lavish raffle baskets, Spering provided a sneak peek to Rocking Around the Christmas Tree which includes a hand painted child’s rocker with matching pinwheel designed quilt, Raggedy Andy doll and Christmas books.
“In addition to taking a chance on raffles, guests will be able to shop from 40 boutique vendors while enjoying a nostalgic flashback of Christmas traditions and memories. Our event speaker, Amy Meadows, will provide a glimpse into her 25-years with Marshall Field’s, readying the State Street store for the much-anticipated Christmas windows and store decorations,” added Cheryl Trzupek, Fall Event Chair.
