Shoebox Express Program Needs Your Help!

WCI Shoebox Express Program provides soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan with needed personal items and a message of appreciation.

Started in 2004, the Women’s Club of Inverness (WCI) started a program named “Shoebox Express” with the mission to provide soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan with needed personal items and a message of appreciation. The Club started with just 3 recipients. As of this date, they have sent over 1,600 care packages to deserving military personal…and even their canine!

Shoebox Chair Kim Buchanan has been organizing this effort for many years, and she has a loyal group of volunteers that help on “Pack & Ship” day, but all are welcome to join. This effort is not funded by WCI, but supported by many members and non-members alike. Monetary donations are most appreciated to cover shipping costs; postage is approximately $16 for each “shoebox” to a soldier.

Your tax-deductible contribution should be made payable to WCI and earmarked for Shoebox. For each $25 contribution, donors are invited to fill out a personal message on a WCI Sponsorship Card which will be placed in a care package. For more information, please contact Kim Buchanan at 847-934-1456 or email kimberleybuchanan@comcast.net.
