
KENOSHA, Wis. – A slew of Harper College men’s track and field athletes set PR’s at the Carthage College “Gill Athletics Final Qualifier” meet on Friday.
John Walker (/Huntley) (6.77 seconds, fourth place), Eric Theis (/Palatine) (7.05 seconds), Robert Trotter (/Bartlett) (7.11 seconds) and Joseph Megyery (/Barrington) (7.26 seconds) all set personal-bests in the 55-meter dash. In the men’s 200-meter dash, Walker took third place in a PR time of 23.40 seconds while Griffin was fourth in 23.43 seconds. Lamont Griffin (/Palatine) placed eighth in 23.71 seconds, and Megyery ran a PR time of 26.33 seconds.

At 800 meters, John Majerus (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) qualified for nationals with a time of 2:02.72. Jordy Arriaga (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (2:06.40) and Connor Williams (/Wauconda) (2:11.72) both set career-bests at the distance. Zach Stella (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) captured third place in the mile run in a time of 4:35.80, and Emil Kozakiewicz (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) placed fourth in 4:41.81. Juan Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) set a PR with a time of 4:48.91.
In the 3000-meter run, Kozakiewicz took fifth place in a personal-best time of 9:16.74, and T.J. Paton (Fairfield, Calif./Hersey) achieved a career-best time of 10:25.39. Adam Brauer (Palatine, lll./Palatine) PR’ed in the 5k in 17:11.22.

Harper performed well in the relays as well. The team of Griffin, Junious Matlock (/Springfield), Arriaga, and Walker captured third place with a PR time of 3:36:59 in the 1600m relay. The 3200m relay squad of Majerus, Arriaga, Matlock, and Stella earned a trip to nationals with a time of 8:14.
Griffin continued to impress in the high jump by clearing 1.88m, a personal-best. Tyler Block (/Conant) took fifth place in the triple jump with a PR of 12.31m. Laith Kanan (/Palatine) notched a PR in the weight throw with a toss of 13.16m, and Edward Phillips (/Schaumburg) captured ninth place in the shot put with a heave of 12.94m.
