A Snapshot of Caring

The Women's Club of Inverness hold a fashion show/fundraiser to help raise funds for scholarships and area non-profits

The Women’s Club of Inverness (WCI) holds their 2017 fashion show/fundraiser Thursday, April 13, at Stonegate Conference and Banquet Center, from 9:30 to 3:00. The day will be filled with vendor displays, raffle baskets, silent auction, dance, and beauty. After lunch, ZZAZZ will entertain with a fashion show highlighting the theme My Fair Stylish Lady.

Although the day will be filled with friendship, purpose drives the members of WCI. At their September meeting, WCI began the new year of fundraising by hearing from a scholarship recipient and representatives from area organizations who help the community.

Catherine Clarke, a previous WCI scholarship recipient, shared that her scholarship gave her a huge boost in confidence. “I learned other people can’t define me or confine me.” She studied psychology at Elmhurst College and went on to the Master’s program in art therapy at the Art Institute.

Mother Margaret Charles, member of Sisters of the Poor, St Joseph’s Home for the Elderly, thanked WCI for caring about the elderly residents nearing the end of their lives. WCI grants “provided necessary and practical purchases.”

Donna Epton, treasurer for Excel Beyond 211 Dollars for Scholars, thanked WCI and shared stories of mentoring students who are often the first generation in their family to enter college. From Excel, students learn about applications, interviews, budgeting time and money, and where to look for help. “With each success, students grow and want to give back.”
