ORIGINAL STORY
State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-27th District) will resign next week to pursue opportunities in the private sector, Politico reports.
“Well, I can’t say anything today,” Murphy told the website Thursday when asked about his possible departure from the Senate, a governing body he's served in since 2006. He added that he possibly could release a statement later.
If he steps down, Murphy, of Palatine, would be the second big-name Republican to leave the General Assembly in as many months. Ron Sandack, the floor leader for his party in the Illinois House of Representatives, unexpectedly resigned in July because of online security issues.

Murphy has been a strong supporter of Gov. Bruce Rauner and a vocal deputy leader in the Senate, according to Politico.
