String of Burglaries Hits North Side of Palatine
Police received reports of 4 burglaries and 1 attempted burglary Aug. 26.

PALATINE, IL — A series of nighttime home burglaries on Palatine's north side that police are investigating have at least one common thread: unlocked windows.
That's how burglars have been entering the majority of homes and apartments that have recently been victimized, the Daily Herald reports. According to Palatine police, suspects have been breaking in to residences between 9 p.m. and midnight, taking off with small items, such as jewelry and cash, the report stated.
Police received reports of four burglaries and an attempted burglary Friday, Aug. 26, and they are under investigation, the report added.

Authorities advise residents to take the following precautions:
- lock all doors, sliding doors and windows when not at home
- put indoor and outdoor lights on timers to create the appearance that someone is home
- report suspicious individuals or vehicles
