Students Give Bulletproof Vest to Palatine Police Dog

Seven students from Woodlawn Middle School raised money to give Puma a bulletproof vest.

PALATINE, IL — A group of Woodlawn Middle School students in Long Grove raised money to protect the furriest member of the Palatine Police Department.

Seven students gave Puma, the department's police dog, a bulletproof vest during the Palatine village council meeting Monday night.

The students met Puma and his human partner, Officer Christians, during a "CSI" course at Harper College.

"We need more people, young people, like yourselves who are willing to step in and help where you see the opportunity," Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz said, according to The Daily Herald. "We thank you for that."

The bulletproof vest cost $800.
