Supportive Living Center Resident Sentenced on Child Porn Charges
The Palatine resident was charged with possession of child porn while he was a resident at a Rolling Meadows supportive living center.
PALATINE, IL — A 74-year-old Palatine man accused of viewing child pornography while living as a resident at a Rolling Meadows supportive living facility has been sentenced to probation. Prosecutors say a search of the external hard drives and laptop of Gary Schar, who now lives in Palatine, turned up more than 200 images of child pornography, according to the Daily Herald. Employees at the Rolling Meadows supportive living facility noticed the inappropriate searches on Schar's computer last summer when they were helping him with his printer.
Court records show Schar has been sentenced to two years of probation, is prohibited from having contact with minors, using a computer and accessing the internet, and he must register as a sex offender, according to the news report.
