Sweet Tomatoes Shutters Schaumburg Location

All suburban Sweet Tomatoes locations have closed.

SCHAUMBURG, IL -- All Sweet Tomatoes locations in the suburbs, including the one in Schaumburg, closed suddenly either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning after the company that runs the eatery filed for bankruptcy earlier this week. .

Garden Fresh Restaurant Corporation, the company that owns Sweet Tomatoes, is planning to restructure and put itself up for sale as the company deals with a decline in sales, according to the Daily Herald. Facing nearly $175 million in debts, Garden Fresh also blamed its financial struggles on increasing costs, including higher minimum wages; higher employee benefit costs and steep rents and leases, according to the Wall Street Journal.

As well as the St. Charles location, Sweet Tomatoes has closed its other suburban locations in Glenview, Lombard, Aurora, St. Charles, and Waukegan.
