Teen Driver Hits Boy, 12, Near Wheeling High School
The boy is still hospitalized after being struck Tuesday afternoon while crossing at the intersection of Hintz Road and Sherwood Drive.

WHEELING, IL — A car driven by a teenager hit a boy, 12, on Tuesday near Wheeling High School, the Daily Herald reports. The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. at Hintz Road and Sherwood Drive, and the boy was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he's still hospitalized, the report added.

The vehicle, which had a 17-year-old driver behind the wheel, was traveling westbound and hit the unidentified boy when he was in the intersection's crosswalk near the school, the report stated. Wheeling police said the driver, who stopped immediately after hitting the boy, was not speeding nor was he impaired, the report added. No charges have been filed, and the incident is still under investigation, according to the report.

The condition of the injured boy was not immediately known. Police also said they did not know where the child was walking at the time of the accident.
