Three Hawks Individual Champs at Dan Gable Open

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Harper College wrestling team competed at the 12th Annual UW-Oshkosh Dan Gable Wrestling Open over the weekend. Three Hawks wrestlers – Zachery McCullough (/Elgin) (125 pounds) Kerin Ramirez (/Addison Trail) (141 pounds), and Blake Tisza (/Thornton Fractional South) (157 pounds) – earned individual titles at the meet.

McCullough and UW-Stevens Point’s Michael Bannach were the only two wrestlers entered at 125 pounds, so they wrestled a round-robin match. McCullough picked up a 6-3 win in the first round, but Bannach bounced back with a 4-2 win in the second round, setting up a third and deciding round. McCullough won the final round 7-0 to capture the title.

Tisza navigated his way through a deep 17-man field at 157 pounds, going 5-0 en route to victory. He won his first match after his opponent was injured, and he bested Trevor Albert 15-4 to improve to 2-0.
