Visiting professor to perform traditional Balinese music at Harper College

Visiting professor Pak I Made Lasmawan, a Balinese drummer and composer, will perform traditional Balinese music at Harper College.

Balinese drummer and composer Pak I Made Lasmawan will showcase Gamelan, the traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali in Indonesia, at an upcoming performance at Harper College.

Professor Lasmawan’s free presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Drama Lab Theatre, Building L, Room L109, on the College’s main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

Lasmawan, the artistic director of the Colorado College Balinese Gamelan Orchestra, will discuss Balinese performing arts, the history and periods of Balinese Gamelan and their connection with the Hindu religion.
