Woman Killed While Crossing I-290: Police

The 24-year-old Des Plaines woman was hit by a car and killed while trying to cross I-290 Friday night.

COOK COUNTY, IL — A 24-year -old Des Plaines woman is dead after she was hit by a car while trying to cross Interstate 290 in Cook County Friday night, authorities said. The woman, who has been identified as Gloria M. Sanchez-Perez, was inside a Silver Toyota Prius that was involved in a crash on I-290 east of Schaumburg Road just before 11 p.m. on Feb. 14.

Authorities say the Prius was headed west on I-290 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch after hitting a guardrail, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

Sanchez-Perez and another person inside the Prius, Kinga A. Pieniadz, 26, of Elk Grove Village, got out of the car and began to run across the westbound lanes of I-290 toward the left shoulder, according to a news release.

While running across the lanes of traffic, Sanchez-Perez was hit by a gold Toyota Camry, authorities said. She was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
