Man Charged With Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault

Security at the Lamplighter Inn in Palatine called police after patrons said Eric Rubio followed a woman into the women's restroom.

PALATINE, IL - A man who police say offered a woman cocaine Saturday night and followed her into the women's restroom at a tavern after she refused it faces a felony criminal sexual assault charge after he was accused of sexually assaulting the woman in a bathroom stall while patrons, bar workers and security were feet away.

A patron at the Lamplighter Inn in Palatine, 60 N. Bothwell Street, told security a man was in the women's restroom at about 10 p.m. Jan. 6. That's when what authorities described as a sexual assault incident ended and Palatine police arrived. With the assistance of bar security, police said they were able to locate and apprehend the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Eric Rubio of Wheeling, before he could leave.

Rubio was also charged with attempted unlawful delivery of a controlled substance following the incident.
