You Must Change Your Sedentary Ways

Are you living a sedentary lifestyle? Sitting does more harm than good. Change your sedentary ways with these behavior change hacks.

Relaxation days are meant to unwind and have some personal time. We work hard day in and day out to be successful at our jobs and provide for our families, so don’t we deserve a day to ourselves? The short answer, yes. But just because you need to give your mind a break doesn’t mean that you should turn to having a sedentary day. With adults already spending 70% of their days sitting, an entire day of slouching in front of the television is not what should be on your agenda.

Over the past couple of years, physical inactivity and the sedentary lifestyle have become increasingly common. The World Health Organization attributes this trend to insufficient movement during leisure time and increased sedentary behavior due to sitting at work, commuting and even technology. For the sake of our short and long-term health it’s vital we’re including physical activity into our everyday routines. The sedentary lifestyle is linked to obesity, high blood pressure, depression and may even increase the risk of certain cancers, according to John Hopkins Medicine. But overcoming your sedentary days isn’t always the easiest when you have the mindset of total relaxation. Try using some of these behavior change hacks to get moving– even on your laziest of days.
