2 Vehicles Stolen, Attempt Made On Kia K5: Palos Hills Blotter

One vehicle was stolen while the owner bowled, another left running and unlocked on a driveway, and a TikTok challenge was made on a Kia K5.

PALOS HILLS, IL — Two vehicles were stolen, and another attempt made on a third vehicle in separate incidents in Palos Hills, reports said.

Vehicle Left Running, Unlocked

An owner left his vehicle running and unlocked in the driveway of a friend’s house on Feb. 20 in the 8100 block of 99th Street. Police said the owner had dashed into a friend’s house just for a moment. When the owner returned, the vehicle was gone.

Kia TikTok Failure

Thieves tried to swipe a vehicle Feb. 22 in the 8400 block of 99th Street. The second owner reported they received an alert that their 2013 Kia K5. When the owner went to investigate his car, the rear driver’s side window had been smashed. Police said the steering column was damaged and the ignition push start button was ripped out. A challenge spreading on viral TikTok video has thieves targeting certain makes and models of 2010-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles. The "Kia Challenge" shows social media users how to steal certain Kia and Hyundai models by simply removing the plastic cowl under the steering column and using a USB cable to hot wire the vehicle.

Vehicle Stolen While Bowling

The owner of a 2021 Dodge Durango left a jacket containing their car keys draped over the back of a chair as they bowled at Palos Lanes, 11025 Southwest Highway, Palos Hills. The owner noticed their jacket was missing, they went to check the vehicle in the parking lot, it was gone.
