Bring the kiddos over to Community Park at 76th Avenue, just south of Route 83, for inflatables and games from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 3. Pre-sale wristbands for residents are $15 per child, available through June 30, or $20 on the day of the event. Wristbands are on sale at the Palos Heights Recreation Center, 6601 W. 127th St., Palos Heights. A wristband is required to play in the inflatables.

Then come back in the evening for a free concert and fireworks at Memorial Park, 7611 College Drive. Gates open at 5 p.m. A DJ spins the tunes from 5 to 6:45 p.m. The music starts at 7 p.m. Fireworks will be blasted off at 9:15 p.m. A beer tent and food vendors will be open during the event from 5 to 9:15 p.m.

Circle back on Saturday, for the Palos Heights Fourth of July Parade. The parade steps off at noon from the Harris Bank, 12534 S Harlem Ave, and marches north to 119th Avenue.

The “sensory friendly” block also returns to the parade courtesy of the Palos Heights Recreation Department and SWSRA (Southwest Special Recreation Association). The “sensory friendly block” is designed to provide a less stimulating environment for adults and children with sensory sensitivities. There will be no lights, sirens or music located at Harlem and 120th Street to Harlem and Route 83.

Proud sponsors of the Independence Day festivities are: TriState Disposal, Palos Pediatric Dentistry, MEI-Morris Engineering Inc., Foam Ryders, All Heart Dental, State Farm Insurance-Audrey McFarlin and M.E. Simpson Co., Inc.
