Police said officers verbally engaged him and offered their assistance. Instead, the man shot himself in the head in front of police, according to officials.

He was immediately provided emergency medical attention by police until the North Palos Fire Protection District arrived on the scene and took over and continued lifesaving efforts. He was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

This was an isolated incident, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Worth Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 708-448-3979.
