After a full year getting her feet wet, Head Coach Jaelyn Donald is better acquainted with the coaching side of Moraine Valley Community College volleyball, and she recruited a full squad that is eager to get started.
"I think I have a good, talented group of athletes. They play as one. Once they get more acquainted, they'll be even closer," Donald said.
In preseason practice, the athletes displayed a competitive spirit and enthusiasm for the sport. The team largely is new with only two returners to guide the freshmen and transfers.
Erin Quigley (Lincoln-Way West) is back and will play as right-side hitter and as a setter – different roles than last season. Rhian Crittenden (Crete-Monee) is another returner who will be a middle blocker/outside hitter.
Notable newcomers include Beatrice Vinksnaite (Sandburg) and Lily Fish (Reavis), both of whom will be powerhouse swingers to give the Cyclones a punch. Mylee Gramenz (Munster) and Marissa Krause (Illiana) will be solid liberos. Overall, Donald believes her team is full of talent.
"We have strength all around on this team. I'm so grateful," Donald noted.
Within the Cyclones' schedule is their first home tri-match in September along with a chance to face new opponents.
"I'm excited to compete in more tournaments and face teams I played when I was a Cyclone," Donald added. "I want the players to have a more varied volleyball world experience. I'm extremely excited about this season."
The Cyclones open their season at the Rockford Opening Weekend Tournament before their home opener on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 6 p.m., against McHenry County College. For updates on Cyclones Athletics, visit mvcyclones.com.
