PALOS PARK, IL—The frost is on the pumpkin and the leaves are changing color, which means it's time for Palos Park's annual fall frolic, Autumn in the Park Festival, which returns Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, on the Village Green, 8901 W. 123rd Street. Admission and parking are free.
The two-day festival kicks off Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. with live music from Mike & Joe, performing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., along with food and drinks for purchase. The event includes
Saturday's festivities begin with the community parade at 1 p.m. along 123rd Street, followed by the festival from 2 to 11 p.m. featuring bands, floats, civic groups, fire and police vehicles, horses, dogs, walkers, riders and community for this wonderful tradition. The parade kicks off at 83rd Avenue on 123rd Street in Palos Park and travels westbound to 90th Avenue, ending near the festival grounds.
There will be a sensory friendly block from 87th to 88th Avenue. No sirens, no horns and no loud noises so those with sensory sensitivities can enjoy the parade.
Live entertainment continues throughout Saturday with Five Guys Named Moe performing classic rock from 3 to 6 p.m., and ARRA closing out the night from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.. In addition to live music, the festival will feature kids' activities Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m,. an artisan market from 2 to 7 p.m.
Both days will feature a wide selection of food offerings from local vendors, including Frangella Italian Market, Barone's, Plush Horse, Robinson's Ribs, Doughs Guys Bakery, Durbin's Pizza, Boba Heaven, Palos Park Woman's Club and Palos Lions Club.
Onsite parking is located at Palos Community Church, 12312 S. 88th Ave., Palos Park, with off-site parking at the Palos Park Metra Station, 123rd St. and 82nd Ave., Palos Park. A free shuttle will be running both days for off-site Metra parkers. Shuttle hours are 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, and 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday
"Autumn in the Park is one of our favorite community traditions," said Stephen DeFalco, director of recreation and parks. "It's a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to come together, enjoy great music and food, and celebrate everything that makes Palos Park special."
Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Festival grounds will be under video surveillance.
