The Palos 118 school board has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) with its School Board Governance Award.
The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges school boards that practice effective governance behaviors as identified in IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance guidelines.
The Palos 118 board was previously recognized by the IASB for its best practices in 2022 and 2024.
Palos 118 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anthony Scarsella pointed to the current board's many achievements which includes establishment of an orientation process for newly elected board members, a superintendent evaluation system, implementation of board member self-evaluation practices, and creating board governing commitments.
"The success of our school district starts at the top with a board of education that consistently implements best practices in governance and leadership. Those best practices directly benefit our district, the students, and the entire community. I can say without reservation that Palos 118 would not be one of the highest performing elementary school districts in Illinois without our IASB recognized school board" he said.
"This board has shown its commitment to the families and students of District 118, by continually improving its leadership skills and knowledge," said Palos 118 Board of Education President Mrs. Pamela Paris, adding "To be a successful board and provide a high-quality educational experience for our students, it requires a lot of time and effort and a commitment to continual learning."
